Mega Man 11 Demo: Full Playthrough: Double Gear Tutorial & Block Man Stage
I haven’t completed my play through of 9 by this point, and I having even started uploading my playthrough of 10, but I still decided to go through with this, anyway.
So far, 11 feels pretty nice. It still feels like a classic Mega Man game even with all of the touchups to the gameplay and the graphics (Roll’s new look is adorable, for example). I try to cover almost everything it offers.
—————
After being denied of using them in 9 & 10, Mega Man can finally slide and charge his Mega Buster, again. About freakin’ time!
11 gives him a new technique in the Double Gear System, which will be a reoccurring element in this whole game. Mega Man can use Power Gear and Speed Gear.
- Power Gear amplifies the power of any weapon he uses, including his normal buster.
- Speed Gear, despite its name, actually slows the entire game down, including Mega Man, himself. This will help you with your reaction time to things once you get the hang of it.
- Both of these gears raise a gauge. If the gauge gets fully charged (no pun intended), Mega Man will overheat and won’t be able to use either Gear again until the gauge cools down.
- Mega Man will also be able to combine both Gears together into precisely known as Double Gear. It makes him even more powerful, and you’ll actually slow everything down while you still move at normal speed. However, this can only be used when he’s at low enough health to say something along the likes of “never giving up”. It’s a “High Risk, High Reward” technique, because once it’s engaged, it can’t be deactivated. When the gauge gets full, Mega Man shorts out SOOOO badly that the only thing he can do from there is fire one single shot from his Mega Buster at a time (the usual is 3), and the Gear cooldown takes more time than normal, so you’re stuck with a badly nerfed offense for a little while. You’re better off just saving this as a last resort to finish off a boss, such as this game’s Robot Masters.
—————
The only stage you get to play in this demo is Block Man’s stage, which is the first Robot Master revealed for this game. His weapon is Block Dropper, but you only get to test run it for a moment after beating him before the demo resets from beating it.
This demo assumes that already beaten Fuse Man and Impact Man, because you start out with their weapons: Scramble Thunder and Pile Driver. Block Man is actually weak to Pile Driver, but he’s kinda jumpy, so it can be tricky to land it on him without taking a hit.
Mega Man in his default form always has the Rush Coil on standby, now, and he can call for Rush’s spring with a push of a button. You can even press it again to send Rush away without using him.
—————
The Robot Masters in this game have more dangerous strategies than any Robot Master in a previous Mega Man game. When you get their health low enough, they’ll unleash their own Double Gear assault. For Block Man’s case, this turns him into a giant Stone Man-like golem that can punch, flatten, and scrape up blocks towards Mega Man.
If you can beat this form, though, Block Man will change back to normal and start using some desperation attacks to try and finish you. If you can rid him of the rest of his health, you’ll finally beat him and gain his Block Dropper weapon.
—————
Again, you can only use the Block Dropper during the tutorial right after you get it. It normally only drops four blocks, but using it with the Power Gear will make Mega Man drop several stacks of blocks all at once!
After that, the demo thanks you for playing it and resets to the title screen. You won’t be able to keep that Block Dropper. All you can really do at this point is play Block Man’s stage again on a different difficulty (this video is for Normal Mode).
Just be a little bit more patient, as the game will be fully released less than one month from now, and it already feels like it’s completed it’s development. In the meantime, please continue following the uploads of my Mega Man 9 playthrough, as well as my Mega Man 10 playthrough afterwards to lead right into Mega Man 11.
Thanks for watching and stay tuned!
