Meanwhile, back at the plot, NAXA is still dealing with the whole meteor issue, and they decided to go the Mega Man X5 method and use a giant laser on it. Only this is to merely divert it's course. But just like in X5, it fails, only this time it was through sabotage. Who did it is probably very obvious, but no time to dwell on that.

Back with Mega Man and the group, everybody's just chatting it up when an official shows up and invites Lan and Mega Man to the Title Drop Tournament, which is taking place in Netopia. Since we have nothing else to do, even though we're technically near the end of the game, we go along. When we arrive in Netopia, we have a brief tour of our new surroundings, and then remember just how much nothing has changed between Battle Network 2 and now as Lan gets kidnapped. So we have to break ourselves out by finding Key Data in the net. Once we do, it turns out this was all a test, in order to prove ourselves worthy of entering the tournament. __
