Mit "Mega Man 8" hat Capcom etwas einmaliges innerhalb der Classic-Reihe geschaffen: Es ist das einzige Spiel für PlayStation, einer Nicht-Nintendo-Konsole; Es ist das einzige Spiel mit Full Motion Videos, schön gezeichnete Anime-Sequenzen; Es ist das einzige Spiel mit Sprachausgabe, aber auf die hätte man echt verzichten können; Es ist das einzige Spiel ohne Energy Tanks!
Diese Kuriosität, trotz allem ein gutes Spiel, wurde in Japan am 17. Dezember 1996 veröffentlich, trat in den USA am 28. Februar 1997 in Erscheinung und bei uns in Europa kam es am 15. Mai 1997 auf den Markt. (Es erschien auch eine Version für den Sega Saturn.)
