The triumphant return of the retroshinobi runs! Shout-out to youtube user angelostar88 for doing this first and arguably better, and whose techniques I certainly studied in assisting my own gameplay to finally pull this off. This run comes almost one year to the day after his brilliant run of 2014. A good balance of attrition and finesse went into this one, sometimes opting to duke it out with certain bosses, and other times getting creative with spots and patterns. The lack of E-Tanks made this quite a bit harder to survive unscathed than the later installments. The Cyclops is usually the boss everybody points to as incredibly tough, and he is... although he has a pretty set pattern in where he forms and how to jump accordingly. One technique of mine is to utilize a long jump across two at once for a particular set. Firing early and from a distance with Elec Man's beam keeps your damage at a minimum. The doppelganger (as with most NES games) is nasty, and getting into a nice rhythm with Fire Man's shot really helps. The 4-boss gauntlet leading to Wily is probably the trickiest, as you'll want to get to Wily with a good, padded life bar. Even so, Wily himself goes down without much of a fuss if you know where to stand. A two tile distance from his cannon barrel allows you to get in on him after every shot without taking any damage at all. Put it all together and you can lay waste to the challenges of the first Mega Man game without losing a single life!
Played on authentic NES hardware, recorded via elgato video capture and xsplit broadcaster. No save states, pausing (other than to switch weapons), turbos, tool assists or cheats of any kind were used. No "pause trick" to fall back on, either!
