Mega Man Network Transmission (Some S-ranks) Part 3
Part 3. I'll be honest I never had even heard of this game prior to 2 weeks before playing it. I got excited for the prospect of finding and playing another side scrolling Mega Man. I've also never played any of the Battle Network games, so as far as the story was concerned I was lost. The writing is absolutely pitiful for a game, but I've never really played the Mega Man games for the lore. On the plus side I got to do more A+ voice acting. As for the game itself Mega Man controls pretty poorly as compared to any of his other official 2D iterations. It took me far longer than I expected to pick up on the game mechanics. They really want you to use the enemy drop chips and I just refused to realize that and mainly played with the buster which starts out pitifully weak. I'm the type of player that rarely ever uses boss weapons in levels outside of mini-bosses and bosses and I never picked up on the fact that the game really wants you to use items and you can switch them out on the fly. The downside is you can have only one guaranteed item the rest are left up to RNG from a pool of 20 that you can curate. I do like the idea in theory, maybe not so much in practice. Most of the levels were fairly simple and not too tough to get through. The bosses also range from complete push overs to tough as nails. Once you start upgrading Mega Man's HP, MP and his buster things become a whole lot more manageable and fun. One of my favorite parts is that the game lends itself to a bit of exploration and I do love going back to levels and discovering new items to acquire. The music and sound design was not stellar, which is a shame because if anything Mega Man usually has some amazing tunes. It's also a much longer game than usual and there are a ton of bosses to fight which is nice, you can even challenge them again for a high score and a chance to fight an optional Bass (bad pun, but I'm leaving it). Overall, this was a bit of a letdown. It's not the worst thing ever, but is a far cry from what makes Mega Man great. Enjoy another blind playthrough.
