A 1-credit clear of the arcade game Megablast [megablst], played with WolfMAME 0.277. Score: 763,400. A no-miss run! No autofire used. Megablast is one of Taito's lesser works - they released some masterpieces, but given how prolific they were, it's not surprising there are some unpolished games. This one has some nice touches - choosing a "loadout" of weapons for all four directions gives some options, the growing "black hole" boss is neat, and the soundtrack is (as expected from Taito) quite solid. It just doesn't feel fully developed: The difficulty curve is weird: The area 3 and 4 bosses are surprisingly hard, but then the final boss dies almost instantly (although to be fair you'll get vaporized by him if you don't know his safespot). This isn't a hard game, but it's definitely a memorizer - the cues the game gives you are less "you'd better GO here now" and more "you'd better BE here now".
