MEGAMAN BATTLE NETWORK (Game Boy Advance | Switch) Part 1: Researching the Legacy Collection
I'm playing GBA games on a 4K TV. Madness.
MegaMan Battle Network is the first in a series of RPGs released in the shadow of Pokemon's massive success. The franchise is quite iterative, and the first game in the series is more of a proof-of-concept. Later games in the series are better paced, with some -quality-of-life improvements to make the grind a bit easier to handle.
As for Mega Man Battle Network 1, it's mostly about exploring a series of mazes, while blind random encounters constantly interrupt you. Combat is extremely simplistic, since the realtime bits rarely require serious tactical decision making. Most of the "cards" you pull from your "deck" blow through mobs with little effort. If you whiff on an attack, your arm cannon can whittle down most enemies.
That's probably why the Legacy Collection includes a feature that greatly increases the power of your arm cannon. As you progress through the dungeons, the number of encounters with trash mobs becomes so excessive that you'll be glad to mow them down quickly.
This game is being played from the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection disc on a Playstation 4.
