Here's an indie game similar to the gameplay of Metal Slug but with an art style and level-up system reminiscent of Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game. In fact, team members of Mercenary Kings actually did work on that very Scott Pilgrim game.

Mercenary Kings is a run-and-gun shooter that begs players to search every nook and cranny of the game. Unlike other games of the genre; you take on various objectives that range from rendez-vous, search and destroy, rescue missions, and a few others. There's a huge emphasis on collecting material while doing these missions as they are what allow you to gain new equipment. This dynamic is what gives the game replayability (a word that doesn't actually exist), allowing for players to craft newer weapons that'll rip open and leave the opposition into a beautiful bloody mess as soon as possible.

Note: My channel isn't about Indie games but as I always said: "I don't do PC gaming, but if Indie developers deliver good games to consoles....I'll buy 'em."
