Read Decription - Click "Show More". This is my first vertical scrolling game, me recording my first-ever playthrough. I spent too long on a couple of the levels, just skip them in the video if you want. I didn't know what exactly to do since this was my first playthrough so I was just trying to guess the best strategy. I have NEVER played ANY vertical shooter until this, ever, so keep that in mind. EDIT: HA, I just noticed I can slow-move using the square button. That would've helped before.

I was just looking for some harder games. Touhou is a "Bullet Hell / Bullet Curtain" game. This one is specifically called "Danmaku" which is "Bullet Curtain". I haven't played much Touhou but by what I can gather it's harder than most of the games, if not the hardest. These are really games of pattern and geometry memorizing I think, though the ones that are totally random bullet barrages are speed but most of them are patterns that follow certain rules or are the same every time.

Note that my controller's joystick is messed-up and kept pulling my character back (and making me spazz-out at the menus sometimes), so I certainly wasn't playing at my best. Secondly, this is actually my very first time playing any Touhou game. Until now I only knew it from the series having a very popular soundtrack (subject to tons of remixes) and rumors of it's difficulty. So I was kinda just learning the ropes as I played here. Given that and the controller issue, I'm sure I can be much better. I only knew how to play it at all because I had seen a couple videos from other Touhou games.

I just played the first 5 stages or so, the game would be quite long to record from beginning to end, not to mention the difficulty will just keep going higher and higher.

Cannot stress enough that this is just the first five stages. The game gets harder and harder. Here's where it goes later: https://youtu.be/VInpkQz5Z90?t=40m

And no, I can't play as good as those people that live and breathe these games, of course. I'm not even gonna try competing with that... I stopped putting way too much time into video games like that. Good goddamn that is nauseating.

But really, you just get good at these games through memorization. For instance, that link I posted there, that battle is beated by just flying in a circle slowly to work with the pattern. If you were to just play these a ton you'd probably memorize them and be able to handle them, but I'm not going to play that much. That's why I truthfully find it more impressive when someone handles a hard random bullet attack - the patterned ones have more bullets but beating them is just about playing the game a lot.

In the end, I see these games as more or less all about bragging rights. There's forums for these games and all they ever talk about is how hard they are and how they've beat them and so forth. They're just hard games for the sake of being hard and exist for people to play for the bragging rights, that's why they have a video saving function and everything.

TL;DR: If you're looking for hard games, look into Touhou and also the game "I wanna be the guy" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzxJgWbm_3I
