Metal Gear Soiled 3 | An Overview of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - Master Collection Version
Almost twenty years after its original release on the PlayStation 2, Konami has finally ported Metal Gear Solid 3 to modern platforms.
I bought the Steam version and made a montage out of my first playthrough of it.
It isn’t great. As of this video's creation, I hadn't played the other games in the Master Collection but I have read that new issues have been introduced to both MGS1 and 2, including a complete lack of button remapping, MGS1 being badly emulated in general with a 30 FPS cap and new blurry filter overlaying it, audio being noticeably compressed where it wasn't before and other issues.
The Master Collection version of the games is really just the Xbox 360 ports of the HD Collection versions with some thing addressed. For example, radio text has been adjusted to account for the PlayStation or Xbox controllers being used, but the game still says "Please do not turn off your console" even on the PC version and the pop-up cutscenes remain stretched. As a whole, the collection sadly only manages to act as a side-grade rather than a must-have as an overwhelming improvement.
If you want the overall best way to play the game, play the HD Collection version on an Xbox 360 emulator. The retail Xbox 360 version is slightly better than the PS3 version due to easier use of controls and a few small bugs (eg. degrading quality of the leech cure pop-up cutscene).
If you want the most content-rich version of the game (with the exclusive content being Snake vs. Monkey, Snake’s nightmare, Duel mode and Secret Theatre) and don’t mind a 4:3 aspect ratio, standard definition and poor performance with a 30 FPS limit, play Subsistence instead.
If you are unable to purchase and play them on older original hardware, unable or unwilling to emulate them, dislike the graphical issues that currently come with emulating them on PS2, PS3 and Xbox 360 or even just desperately want MGS3 natively on PC, the Master Collection is a completely passable option although it's unlikely to be your best option due to the high popularity of the original games meaning that you likely already own the HD Collection.
If you are after MGS1 from the Master Collection due to it being missing from the HD Collection (or not owning the Legacy Collection on PS3 which has it as well as MGS4), the PC version is available from GOG.com and is half the price of the MC version. You can pick it up here:

If you still wish to buy the Master Collection, each game is available individually or as a bundle for a lower total price. Pick it up on PC as the system requirements are very generous and the potential for modding is high.
Background music that begins at 13:32 is “Metal City” from the Sonic Riders OST. You can find the extended version that I used here:

If this video does well enough, I may make more like it. I intended this to be a one-off but it was both fun and easy to edit so it serves as a welcome break from the usual live commentated playthrough format.
