0Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (2004)
Originally released for Sony Playstation 2, we're playing the port on the PS3.
It's part of the "Metal Gear-athon" in which we're playing all the games of the Metal Gear Legacy Collection + MGS V.
Hideo Kojima was again in the lead of the development of Metal Gear Solid 3. It enlarges the franchise with a new setting. The jungle features not just a different environment, but also the map pieces are much larger than in MGS1 and 2.
What makes this game innovative are many new additions to the Metal Gear formula. There is the new fighting mechanic called CQC (close quarter combat). There is a new healing menu that requires specific healing depending on the injury. The boss battles have also reached new levels in this game requiring very unique and special strategies. Unlike other games in the series (or in general) it's not enough to aim and shoot quickly.
The last important modification was not in the original release, but has been added in the subsistance release. You can now switch from the previous camera type above you to a "over-the-shoulder" camera which provides vastly superior vision on the large maps. A welcome change to the game.
