Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (2010)

Originally released for Playstation Portable (PSP), this game has been ported to PS3. The version is called HD Edition and is part of the Metal Gear Legacy Collection. We're playing it as part of the "Metal Gear-athon" which will also feature MGS V in the future.

As usual Hideo Kojima was again in the lead of the development of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. The game plays in the timeline after MGS3 and therefore follows story-wise 'Naked Snake' becoming 'Big Boss' by killing his previous mentor 'The Boss'.

Technically, the game is not able to keep up with MGS4 that was released 2 years earlier due to the limitation of the PSP compared to the PS3. Nonetheless, the game features typical MGS gameplay, with a few alterations. Instead of the typical MGS cutscenes delivered in each game's 3d engine, MGSPW chose a comic style to deliver the story pieces. The game has multiplayer of various kinds. The regular missions can be played in coop, there are additional versus missions and items/equipment can be exchanged with other players. Unlike previous Metal Gear games, there is a mission menu in which you select main or optional missions. In between those, you're managing the Mother Base. You need to recruit personel and assign them to tasks like developing weapons and items for the player.
