In this video, we unbox and inspect the Collector's Edition of Metal Storm from Irem and Retro-Bit.

At CES 2019, Retro-Bit announced that they were adding another cartridge to their collector's edition series of games. This one, one that I was very excited for as soon as I heard about it, was Metal Storm. This game is absolutely amazing in so many ways, thanks in part to it coming out so late in the life cycle of the NES. However, because it did come out so late in that life cycle, it didn't sell as many copies due to competition from both the Sega Genesis and the Super Nintendo. As such, many of us missed out on what was truly an epic game

Thankfully, Retro-Bit has brought Metal Storm out of the vault as it were and given it very much the same treatment as with the 2018 release of Holy Diver and R-Type Returns. There are actually multiple versions of this hitting the shelves. First of all, you have the standard cartridge-only version, and of course, the Collector's Edition that you see here. You then have unique versions available from Retro-Bit directly, Limited Run Games, and Castlemania Games. Finally, there's a unique version just for PAL territories!

What makes the Collector's Edition of Metal Storm so special is all the additional pack-ins that have gone into this. First and foremost, every box includes a certificate of authenticity which is numbered. You also get a minifig of the M-308 Mech, a collector's Metal Storm pin, two-sided poster, postcards, and a full color, dual-language instruction manual. For just a few dollars more, the Collector's Edition really packs in the extra goodies over the standard edition. The attention to detail that has gone into the set is truly remarkable. I am absolutely in love with the minifig, this thing looks amazing. If you are at all into Macross, you're going to love this.

But what about the game? It's all about the game, isn't it? Well, I have to tell you, the game is amazing. From the opening translated Japanese cinematics to just the overall quality that was there on its original release date, Metal Storm is still a masterpiece. I cannot wait to truly dive into this game with some extended play sessions and live streams.

I want to thank retro-bit for providing the sample for unboxing and review. It is through their support that we are able to bring you fun and exciting content such as. I was pumped when I saw this in person at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo, and this truly does not disappoint.
