MetiKSP E2 | AP Antelope SSTO Ax1
um um
The Initial test of the Antelope X1 Prototype would be coordinated first as a regular flight (glide test) and eventually on the second flight a suborbital flight with the same engines. The current Idea with the Antelope series SSTO are to have them imitate a broad-wing for further control and better glide-scope (during re-entry) and to test its ascent capabilities in vertical flight.
Press release regarding the secret Antelope X1 Prototype would be shrouded in mystery due to the relatively new and untested suborbital engines of the Aerospike / jet engine hybrid used in the atmosphere to space transit.
However, despite the heavy push and success in the commercial sector after advertising the craft as SSTO capable. The mission ended in disaster after one of the control surface ailerons malfunctioned during a routine flight. In what appears to be an inverted spinout. The Antelope X1 would be locked into an uncontrollable spin. Eventually leading to an uncontrolled collision with the ocean. None of the two pilots survived despite the safety procedures set in place (of which the contingencies for this specific event was not available). The original flight training crew of FL215 were lost.
The Antelope program is heavily funded with a 60% allocation of the union's Space spending. The casualties presents itself as a flop for potential investors thus deterring most of the initial backers. This caused a huge dip in governmental support for the program too, leading to not only a formal desist but also an official dissolution of the Antelope SSTO program.
As of now, a secret privately funded Antelope X2 Craft is being developed under contract for the Military beyond oversight from the government.
