It's Metroid 1. And it's Metroid 2. It's Metroid 1 & 2 all in one to view for tons of you. The first Metroid I have intimate experience with. The second is blind, though I do boop up a map partway through. Later found it was completely unnecessary outside of saving time and nulling the effects of set pieces. Links Below. Check out the second link and look around the site, you won't be disappointed.

Metroid 1 is run using a script called Metroid.lua by a Neill Corlett. Metroidvaniers know it as one of if not the best patch to use when replaying Metroid 1. I've seen better. But actually though, even outside of this race, I may just have to go back and try a standard run at Metroid with this. You can switch your items and you get access to a map, both features are not included in the base game. You just need FCEUX as your emulator. Its a good one though.

Metroid 2 is impressive. No really. The game wasn't released in color but rather in the green screen color the GB was originally known for. Well, black and white with a green filter. Point is, the game is no longer monochrome thanks to the work of EJR Tairne and Justin Olbrantz. The fix/game itself is called Metroid II EJRTQ Colorization 1.3. It breathes some much needed life into this dank, stark atmosphere, and completely pulls it out from the "that's a game boy game" pile. It then places it into the "that's a metroid game" pile and posts a sign telling you, you did not screw up in missing out on MTRoS for the GB. That's all it does, but its the perfect improvement for this kind of challenge. It also pretty much turns a GB game into a GBC game but that's just magic dudes. There's no explaining that. Finally, it's a very deep game in the technical department. To be frank though, I myself didn't give the game enough credit all the way up to the point I shot Queen Metroid in the mouth, then it all came swirling together like an imploding maelstrom. This is a dope game. Don't miss out on this one. This one meaning specifically Metroid 2 for specifically the GB, possibly with the color improvement that turns it into a GBA game. Having played Samus Returns doesn't count as having played this, imo.

This is a great challenge that many probably meet the conditions for. Do consider the challenge as a thing you can do before diving into the second game: Both games, back-to-back, make it to the end as quickly as possible. Good with Metroid 1, blind with Metroid 2. You can use as many chances as you'd like to restart the Metroid 1 run before starting Metroid 2, but once you start 2, you are not allowed to start over. Watch my Metroid 1 run for help on routes. I take my own personal speed running route which you can apply yourselves. It's especially helpful in the beginning with Brinstar and parts of Norfair. Don't bother learning it if it's too tough. NES games can feel pretty bad to play at times. You're supposed to already know Metroid anyways to try this challenge. You can use as many tools as you'd like which don't compromise the physical structure of the games level design; things such as walking through walls or increasing walk speed are NOT allowed. The same goes for increasing the speed of the games. Maps are fine. So is Metroid.lua. There's a hack that helps with saving in Metroid which is cool. So is Classic NES and ports like that. Use save states if ya need, I don't mind. Just be informative on your gamering assistance tools. I assume the challenge will take the average gamerer 8 hours, where they are using no maps/assistance tools and no save states, glitches, or cheats. I waste a lot of time here so my prediction might be off. Lag, emulator glitching, leaving the room, and taking a break all use time, too. No timer stops. It's okay if you've played Samus Returns, just make sure you make a point of letting others know just in case it actually impacts the run. And here's a goal to keep track of so you know you're doing okay: I defeated the Armetroidillo and got the spring ball at 3:34:15 into the run. My entire run is 07:54:16.

I had a lot to say, but I really just hope you enjoy this video. Good luck if you decide to take on this challenge. If you can record it, that'd be sweet, lmk. Otherwise, I'd love to know your times if you do take part down in the comments. Happy October, enjoy your walk with the baby Metroid, and have a nice day!
