The Metroid series is one that I’ve always enjoyed. Though my feelings on the franchise have altered pretty dramatically in the months leading up to Metroid Dread. In honor of the announcement of Metroid 5 I decided that I would play through all 4 of the Metroid games leading up to this new entry while also dabbling into Metroid 2 twice through the Samus Returns remake and the AM2R fan game.
It took me over 2 months to release those 5 videos and it was during that time that my feelings changed. It was then where I transitioned from a fan of the Metroid series, into something different. I began to question what exactly Metroid was. It’s easy to look at the franchise and see what it is, but what potential did it have in the modern age? Is there a place for Metroid still in 2021 and beyond?
