Before I detail what transpires here, this is what I missed.
I missed two Energy Tanks and both were in Torvus Bog. One was in the Transit Tunnel. The other required me to use the Boost Ball and then the Spider Ball to cross to reach it. Such a pain. As for the Missile Expansion, it's at the Command Center but as you're in Morph Ball, head right and there you go.
Now with everything we need, the time has come to take the fight to the Ing at the Sky Temple. Welcome to Dark Aether's Doomsday. Basically our final battle is against Emperor Ing. Emperor Ing is a 3-phase fight and if you don't know what you're doing, you'll get wrecked. Here's what you have to do.
Phase 1 requires you to damage it's tentacles first. Why? Because you have to expose it's core and fire Super Missiles at it. Be forewarned that if you get hit, you lose the ability to attack for a few seconds. Make your shots count cause the hitbox for it is a moving one.
Once that's done, Phase 2 begins. Gas starts spewing so you need to go into morph ball. Latch on and use Bombs to hit 13 weakpoints. You can use Power Bombs too. That works as well.
After all 13 weakpoints are taken down, it leads to Phase 3 where it requires the most amount of luck. You need to damage it's mouth to expose its weakness. Depending on the color, you need to use either the Dark Beam or Light Beam to damage it. Charge shots work but if it's light weakness, it can drain the health fast. Once it's taken down, Samus absorbs the last of the energy controllers. This leads to a self destruct sequence.
You have 8 minutes to escape but lo and behold, Dark Samus is back. Back for one final battle. The Dark Visor is useless here so use the Echo Visor and Super Missiles. Once it's health drops below half, it'll be overloaded with Phazon. The only way to damage it is by absorbing Phazon that it shoots out with your Charge Beam. Once you gain enough, the beam turns blue and you can damage it while it's in the orb state. Do this a few times and the fight is over.
Dark Samus is finally defeated and Samus is able to escape Dark Aether as it completely collapses. Samus returns to the Skyview Temple and returns the final amout of energy, restoring the planet. In doing so, the Luminoth are indebted to Samus for saving their planet and she flies off to her next mission.
Depending on the item percentage, more is added to the ending. 75% showcases Samus in her Zero Suit. This came out on the same year as Metroid Zero Mission, just so you know. But if you've collected every item pickup in the game, you get an added scene at the very end. Dark Samus has survived so you know what that means? The Phazon Saga is far from over.
That's it for Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. I can say with certainty that it still holds up. Compared to Prime 1 where it's all about exploration, Prime 2 is deeper. It tells an intriguing story about a bounty hunter trying to save a world she knows so little about from a dark force. In terms of gameplay, it improves from the first one with new power-ups, the dual dimensions, etc. It's insane. It still holds up almost 20 years later and I highly recommend this game.
