Metroid Prime Tutorial: How to R Jump like it's 2021

Metroid Prime is hard, but you can make it slightly less hard by limiting some unnecessary precision with this technique for optimal R jump speed.

Most of my non-TAS demonstrations in this video lose speed from releasing L too early, that's because the game was running slower than I can easily adjust my hands to, so keep that in mind. If you actually do what I outline in the video, your R jumps will be much better than my demonstrations were, and you won't lose any speed if you release L at the right timing (almost all of mine were early).

A frame countdown:
1. Jump
2. Press R (Anywhere between frames 1 and 14, but the earlier the bigger the window)

4. *After R is pressed* Move analog stick to slightly above straight left/right

14. Release L with a now buffered optimal analog stick angle

You can Tap R briefly, or Hold R for the entire jump, it does not matter as long as it's been pressed at some point (which causes limited influence).

With this method, since R has already been pressed and has already initiated limited influence during the grounded jump, you can perform the Space Jump only holding L during the 7 frames of jumpstate 1 (rather than L+R) but this is neither better or worse than holding L+R.

Oh and I forgot to mention in this video, but once you turn enough, you can start holding slightly up.
