Metroid Should've Been Huge...So What Happened?
2,917How has a series that inspired an entire genre of video games, never had a game sell even 4 million copies?
Animal Crossing New Horizons sold 48 million copies on the Switch. Breath of the Wild 33 million, Super Mario Odyssey 29.5 million. Those games haven’t just sold more than Metroid’s best…they’ve sold more than the entire Metroid franchise combined.
But I want to understand why? Why has Metroid consistently delivered in terms of gameplay, but never quite broke out when it comes to massive commercial success.
