This is segment 5 of my segmented speed run of Metroid: Zero Mission 100%. I'm working on a segmented run for fun since this is my first segmented run I've ever started, and also partly for practice for single segment runs.

This segment was almost as bad as segment 4. The lack of missiles did cause a chunk of resets. I also want to have at least 9 supers at the end of this segment for Ridley (10 is max at this point) since each super saves about a second in the Ridley fight, so I lost several good attempts to crappy super missile drop luck.

Two things to note. First, the really really long horizontal hall. I do not shinespark all the way to the right; i bonk early. If done optimally, this is actually the same speed as shinesparking all the way, with the advantage being that i have some extra chances at drops (disadvantage being, it's harder). I don't reset if i don't bonk, but it was worth it in this segment since I got an extra super drop.

The other important thing to note is that after the two speedboost puzzles in the right side of Ridley's area, it is possible to shinespark/ballspark all the way through the left hall. This is actually slower by one second than what I do here (traverse the hall manually), at least since I don't have long beam (having long beam makes shinesparking the same speed since I can shoot out those blocks above the missile tank from far away instead of bombing it). Traversing this room manually also has the advantage of even more chances of super drops, but of course, is harder to optimize.
