Mexicana [fun and different HOG] 5/5
One last thing in regards to Denmark, well really because this is the last video in this series. hahaha I never understood why København became Copenhagen in English. What does that even mean?
So in the old days, any major nexus city would be named a købstad, which literally means 'buy-city', but buy doesn't exactly mean to buy in this context (and this is why the Scandinavian languages are so hard for outsiders, because we have like 10 meanings per word, it depends on context) it should be translated as 'trade' so you trade stuff, buy and sell.
Havn means harbor, since it is a harbor town. København means 'trade harbor' and this is why I have to wonder how the English word came to be, because it means nothing, it's just someone's attempt to say the word phonetically I guess?!
