2If you ever wanted a game that is like a mixture of the Driver series, Crazy Taxi, Cruis'n, and Need For Speed, boy do I have a game for you. This is Midtown Madness 3 developed by Digital Illusions CE (now known as EA Digital Illusions CE AB (trade name: DICE) or EA DICE) and published by Microsoft Game Studios in 2003 exclusively for the Xbox. As the title suggests this is the third installment of the Midtown Madness series. But unlike the first two entries, Midtown Madness 3 is a Xbox console exclusive in two cities (the first two were on PC).
The game has an heavy emphasis on open-world driving that is VERY similar to Crazy Taxi and Driver. The game's main mode is Work Undercover in which you take part in two stories with one set in Paris and the other in Washington DC.
- The Paris plot involves a "legendary race car driver" named Dieter Kleinmann. Players work undercover in various odd jobs a like a delivery guy, taxi driver, chauffeur, security guard, ambulance driver, police officer, and special agent. All with the end goal of protecting Kleinmann.
- The Washington DC plot involves involves the player working with two filmmakers named Stefano and Michael Tortellini to create an action film while under rivalry with another hot-shot producer. You'll be doing various jobs as a pizza delivery man, rental car driver, limo driver, car salesman, stunt driver, police officer, and private eye with two filmmakers named Stefano and Michael Tortellini to create an action film while under rivalry with another hot-shot producer.
The game also a has Single Race mode which you can do a Checkpoint race (point-to-point races with checkpoint games to go through in any order and get to the finish line before the other opponents), Blitz race (time trial pretty much), or Cruise which let's the player freely roam Paris or Washington DC in 30 vehicles (20 of them are licensed) with the ability to have police chases as well. Also every vehicle in the game does take damage and has a damage meter underneath the speedometer on the in-game HUD.
