Late last summer my computer and I reached a new level of symbiosis when I sat down and played through Might & Magic 6-9. It's been years since I had that much fun and was as completely immersed in the gaming experience for weeks on end, and none of the big currentgen releases of the autumn and winter (such as "Fallout 3", "Fable 2" and "Gears of War 2") was able to offer anything remotely resembling the same amount of pure, unadultered fun as New World Computing's distinctively old-fashioned RPGs did (although "Fable 2" admittedly came pretty close at times).

Of the four last MM titles my favorite is undoubtedly MM6 (for its accessible skill system, massive game world and carefree atmosphere). MM7 is apparently a fan favorite and the game which has received most attention by the modding community, but I found the beginning to be a bit dull compared to both MM6 and MM8, and also didn't like some of the gameplay changes (various new skill and class restrictions bothered me).

MM8 was rushed and broken in many ways (Dragons anyone?) but I still had much more fun with the game than I had initially expected. The same can be said, albeit to a lesser degree, of MM9, which started out as an unplayable mess in its original release but was subsequently improved to a passable RPG by the hard work of some seriously dedicated fans.
