1337 = “Elite” in hacker parlance, refers to state of superior performance. When applied to the Romanian games dev industry, it paints a future where locally developed products have achieved universal critical acclaim and widespread commercial success, supporting a vibrant network of local studios, publishers, distributors and world-class artisans. In order to reach apotheosis, the local industry must mature and this is unlikely to be solely achieved via natural growth, without concerted actions from multiple actors. This talk will lay out a roadmap for establishing Romania as a recognized games dev powerhouse, starting with an archaeology of the industry’s past and a series of practical steps we must take as a community to secure our future.
