Minecraft 4K Max RTX Off and On Comparison
Minecraft with RTX, It's ON! A quick house comparison with RTX off and on.
While only having dabbled with this blocky game before, I have certainly come to appreciate it a little more after seeing the neat creations people have built.
In preparation for acquiring an RTX-enabled GPU, I bought the Java edition and built a small house in Creative Mode. This was confounded by learning that I really had to have instead, purchased the Windows 10 Edition, then, using a couple editors to rechunk my world and convert it from Java to Bedrock, then I could start the RTX process. Once converted to Bedrock, you need to opt-in to Microsoft's XBox Insider program for Minecraft Beta RTX, uninstall and reinstall the game, and also grab a requisite RTX-enabled texture pack for the features and drop it in the necessary folder.
It's not the hardest conversion of game data I've ever done, but it certainly took a few hours to figure it out from scratch. At least it was fun figuring it out and being able to keep my house design (backed up, mind you) between all the conversions.
The reward? Sweet, glowing, beautiful RTX lighting!
"Upscaling" in game is their term for Nvidia DLSS. Without it, I achieve roughly 35-55 FPS on ground or sky (compared to 110-240+ in regular Windows 10 Bedrock). Turning on Upscaling however, locks me at a solid 60 FPS.
I'll certainly have to play this a bit more when I have time to really see what beauty can be made.
More RTX-oriented videos to come in the future, as well as a huge RTX 3090 review once it's completed, stay tuned!
