Continuing with my farming project, I build a simple cactus and sugarcane farm. There's a lot of potential for automation for each type of farming, but I decide to keep it simple because I'm not going to use very much of either resource anyway. In the video I forgot to mention what the cobblestone structure above the cactus was for. Because of the arrangement of the pistons and the cactus, when the cactus is fully grown the spaces in between the cactus would be dark enough for hostile mobs to spawn, so the cobblestone thing has torches on it to light up the block in between the cactus to prevent this. Any mobs spawning in the cactus would probably die pretty quickly anyway, but better to be safe.
