Minecraft Dungeon Accessibility Review
This is the review for the long awaited Minecraft Dungeons. I have to say I am surprised at how accessible this game is for gamers who are totally blind. text to speech really makes a huge difference and makes this game almost fully playable for the totally blind. The music and environment sounds are very well done, as are the sounds for different in game items. The only con I have for this game is in regards to the objective based navigational system. The game tells players to follow the objective marker, which at this time is not accessible via sound cues for blind gamers. I did however manage to complete the first objective in the creeper forest which was to find a kidnapped villager. I find that exploration is really key to completing objectives and can be done as you can see in the video. In game narration works well and allows for blind gamers to get information about loot drops from enemies, however information about items that are found in urns and chests did not give information about contents. I would like to see more work put into the inventory system as it is very easy to get lost and not be able to find previously obtained items. Having a memory feature that puts the player back on the same item that was looked at the last time the inventory was accessed is an answer for fixing getting lost for blind gamers. All in all I am happy to say that Minecraft Dungeons is accessible enough for totally blind gamers to play with little to no difficulty and I am looking forward to see what other features for accessibility will be introduced to make gameplay even better in the future.
