Blue's explanation: Okay, so Minecraft can get boring and repetitive, and sometimes creative juices are just not flowing. I've been thinking of something new to bring to the server, and I'd like your ideas / thoughts. Tentatively, I'm calling it Steve vs. Hardcore World. 1

The idea itself isn't new; there are "hardcore servers" out there, where you need to survive, and you are banned when you die. We're not banning anyone, so to raise the stakes, I'd like to throw out some ideas:

Your score is determined by your total XP when you die. The high score will be tallied automatically and posted on this website.
You can play as many times as you want, but you'll start from scratch every time.
You start your adventure from a random location in a 1024x1024 world. If you die, you start over from another random location.
The world will be in hard mode, meaning that: you can die from hunger, and mobs damage you more.
For starters, there won't be a nether or end world. We'll try it out with a normal world first.
No warps, no teleports.
The world will be pre-generated, to avoid players cheating by generating their own world using the same seed.
Strategy is a plus:

You can make traps, including the reasonable use of TNT and lava. One or two TNTs make a good trap, but dozens of TNT has no other purpose than griefing.
You can team up with other players and share resources, but remember: while it might be easier to kill an enemy with three of you, it also means you need three times the XP.
You can build safe houses, but other players may use it if they find it.
Some things I'd like to do, but it depends on whether I can write a plugin that does it or not:

I'd like it if hostile mobs will no longer burn in daylight.
I'd like it so that you earn a "combo" bonus when you kill more than one hostile mob in a short amount of time, e.g. bonus 10% XP for every mob killed within 1 minute of the previous mob.
I'd like it so that animals no longer drop XP when killed, in order to avoid mass-breeding and killing for XP.
I'd like ores to be rarer to make it harder. Or, maybe make it so that you need a certain level of XP before you can use better tools. This would avoid some
Prevent your items and XP from dropping when you die. This means that you can't steal someone else's items and XP. It also means you can't go back to where you previously died and resume where you left off. You can however keep your items in a chest, but that chest would be free for all; someone else is allowed to steal its contents.
I'd like to take spawners out of the world in order to avoid XP farms.
Make Endermen be hostile as soon as you're in within a specific range (probably the same range as when other mobs aggro on you), and have some wolves spawn angry.
