The Timber! Mod simplifies the monotonous and time-consuming chore in minecraft related to cutting trees. While using this mod, you can cut down a whole tree by targeting the lowest trunk of said tree.
This works on all tree types, including the giant Jungle Trees located in the jungle biomes. Not that if you target a block above the lowest trunk then only the blocks at that level and above will be chopped down.
Not only does it cut down the trunks of the trees, but it also removes any branches or "demon blocks" that are not directly connected to the trunk itself, making it quite valuable to those who do not wish to be surrounded by tree tops.
By using the Timber! Mod, you can greatly hasten your tree cutting which will allow you to utilize planks and tree blocks as a way to create charcoal much more efficiently. The Timber! Mod is only available for single player, though there are bukkit-related plugins which emulate the same kind of features as this mod does.
