This stage is, like, nothing. Weak enemies. Easily dodged enemies. I thought this would be a stage I could leave ANY old weapon for. Nope! Because of the boss's defensive and evasive tactics, the only weapon that's equipped to ACTUALLY DAMAGE IT in every phase (let alone actually kill it) is... Water Cutter. The most ammo-efficient weapon in the game, blown on a nothing stage. I was really hoping for it to come in handy elsewhere, but that's a luxury I can't afford!
That said, calling it a nothing stage is a little mean. It's a perfectly serviceable stage, if simple. We get our final utility here, the Wire Adaptor, and it's a fun time swinging from wall to wall on it. Other than that, it's just finding a path that works as you climb through the fortress! The boss is the real star- not for difficulty, though you'd better at least memorize the movement pattern so you can avoid being stranded on a platform that's covered by the top or bottom piece- but more for sheer variety and staying power. It repeatedly spawns barriers to block your shots in the first three phases (piercing power required for that) and avoids your vertical position in the final two (spread shots or aiming ability required for that.) And it's too far away for closer-range weapons to be viable. Water Cutter is the only weapon left to fill every niche! Aside from its actual weakness, Spark Manbow, which we will absolutely need in another stage very soon.
