As Londo Bell gears up to battle Turchinov and dismantle his Death Bubble fortress to rescue Rain, Axel remembers his plan from Lemon and, with a heavy heart, chooses to enact it. Axel takes Kaine aside and reveals to him that his mother Aoi, who was thought to be dead, is still alive, but being held prisoner in Giganos' Mobile Fortress. He recommends Kaine surrender to Giganos to ensure his mother's safety, lest she die during Londo Bell's attack. This information was provided by the Shadow Mirrors, the organization Axel works for.

Kaine reluctantly chooses to comply and, to ensure nothing goes foul, Axel also deploys and threatens both the Nahel Argama and Nadesico to comply as well, or he'll self-destruct the Vysaga and take out both ships in one fell swoop. It's at this point the Shadow Mirrors come out to gloat and pat themselves on the back for a cool Worm Tactics ploy. Then, Axel makes his move...
