MMORPG Analysis - Are Subscription-Based Games Worth It?
When it comes to analyzing MMORPGs, one of the first questions I often get asked is "are subscription-based games still worth it?". I think the answer to that is highly subjective.
Most players are going to look at subscription-based MMORPG and immedietely balk at being asked to spend 12 or 15 dollars a month to play the game. Why? Because there are THOUSANDS of buy-to-play and free-to-play options available these days.
Sure, some sub-based MMOs still exist, such as World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XIV, but these are also huge franchises with dozens of years of history and content behind them, offering players huge value for their money.
When comparing a single game to a service such as XBox Games Pass, where you get hundreds of games at your disposal for the same amount as an single MMORPG subscription, the question is very much a value-based equation: am I going to get equal or greater than enjoyment out of a single game than I will out of a service?
