Monster Soul Volume 2 by Hiro Mashima - Manga Review
10Welcome to my review of Monster Soul Volume 2 by Hiro Mashima which is a two part miniseries that he worked on from 2006-2007 while Fairy Tail was also being published. With the first volume introducing us to the cast of characters, this volume sees the Black Airs go up against the Drei Kommandos in a battle to save Selsh's kingdom. There were some really nice backstory moments with the characters here, particularly with Tooran and Mummy which definitely influenced Mashima with certain scenes that happen later on in Fairy Tail later. It's pretty crazy actually. I loved the new outfit on Mummy too. Her personality is that of Erza, but she really looked like Julia here. Hot damn! I also thought that the scene where Aki gave Tooran his jacket was cute. It reminded me of the time when Natsu gave his coat to Lucy during the Edolas arc. So sweet. While I did enjoy reading this miniseries, it would have defeintely been better off if it were a few more volumes. Still entertaining though and a recommend for big Mashima fans.
