Monster Zero Longplay (Arcade Game) - Warning: Contains Flashing Lights!
- Monster Zero Longplay (Arcade Game) -
Released by Nihon in 1982, Monster Zero is a relatively obscure horizontal space shooter for arcades. The game comprises six stages where players aim to raise 10 flags in each stage by shooting enemies to progress. The exception is the final boss level, where the objective is to hit its eyes to defeat it. Upon clearing all stages, the game restarts with heightened difficulty.
While Monster Zero offers an overall enjoyable experience, it didn't resonate well with arcade gamers, in my opinion, due to the somewhat frustrating difficulty level, exacerbated by lengthy stages. Although deciphering enemy patterns requires practice, it becomes challenging to stay focused amidst evasively fluttering foes attempting collisions or counterattacks. The frenetic gameplay makes the seemingly brief task of raising 10 flags feel prolonged, leading to moments of vulnerability and the loss of multiple lives.
Personally, like many at my local arcade during its heyday, I struggled with the game. Nonetheless, I'm pleased to share that I eventually managed to complete the first loop after numerous attempts.
