Monstrum 2 is an asymmetric, multiplayer survival horror game VERY heavily influenced by Dead By Daylight. I got to play the Monstrum 2 beta with a few friends and felt compelled to give my honest review of the game because I DON'T think it's worth charging right now.
In the Monstrum 2 beta, it felt like a Dead By Daylight clone that abandoned what it did really well in the first game after seeing the success of Dead By Daylight and used that as a justification to do something that the original fans of the game didn't ask for. At the same time, players new to the franchise are met with an unfun game with terrible performance.
In fact, I think Monstrum 2 is worse than a bad game. A bad game usually makes you at least feel something. A bad game typically just needs some adjustments and fixes to make it a decent game.
Monstrum 2 is a BORING game.
In Monstrum 2, lobby sizes range from 3 to 5 players where everything about the original is flipped. Instead of multiple monsters hunting you down, you're either the sole monster hunting down everyone else in the lobby or you're one of two to four people trying to escape. There was never a moment I really felt any kind of fear. Nothing to the degree of what the original seemed to have done so well.
The gameplay offers no challenge or stakes that make it even a little interesting to engage with. The parts players are able to interact with are completely unintuitive without going through a tutorial first. Even then, the audio and visual design doesn't help reinforce what the tutorial hopes to teach.
Please do not buy this game.
