Is a universal concern for humanity the bedrock of a civilized culture?

Should we just accept that our ethics are in practice tribal? How do we decide between morality and equality today? We think everyone should be treated equally. Yet we also think we are right to care most about our family, our friends, and our lovers and 82% of charitable donations in the UK are given to the causes closest to home.

Peter Tatchell: Peter Tatchell is a human rights campaigner best known for his work with LGBT social movements. Tatchell has stood as a candidate for the Labour Party and has campaigned through the direct action group OutRage!, which he co-founded.

Natalie Cargill: Natalie Cargill is a barrister, and founder of Effective Giving , an organisation which identifies the most effectie forms of intervention. She has previosly worked for the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, where her work focused on interventions to advance women and girls and the middle east.

David Miller: David Miller is Professor of Political Theory at the University of Oxford. His work has focused on the idea of justice, originally social justice, but now also global justice and is author of Justice for Earthlings (2013).
