Currently what I've found is that MP weapons added in a patch, cannot be spawned as pickups. But they can be spawned as objects or possibly directly into your inventory.

The weapon Joel holds in this sequence is an object, as it changes to a regular Shotgun after the animation. But I'm going to keep trying.
