Good sequel in the MK series, this one adds a "Run" button to avoid falling projectiles the enemy may cast, or just to get close to the enemy in a hurry. There is a meter on the screen that allots a certain amount of "run" time. New characters are added, including robot ninjas created to assassinate Sub-Zero (unmasked in this one!). In MK3 you select Novice (6 fights and the bosses Motaro and Shao Khan), Warrior (8 fights and the bosses) or Master difficulty (10 fights and the bosses). After beating a difficulty you get the opportunity to enter a secret code to unlock the character Smoke, as a "Kombat Kode". Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 allows for 3 different modes to begin with: Mortal Kombat (regular gameplay), 4 characters vs. 4 characters in 2 on 2 mode (the first to defeat 4 characters is the winner), and 8 Player Tournament (8 on 8, 2 at a time, in a championship bracket). If you choose Mortal Kombat you can select between the difficulties Novice, Warrior, Master I or Master II. All have at least one Endurance Match (face 2 enemies, one after another), after a certain amount of fights, and then the 2 boss characters. Here in UMK3 you then get to enter the "Lost Treasures" screen-- this is really cool because you can now choose to look at all the fatalities, play hidden characters like Ermac, Noob Saibot and Smoke, play Super Endurance matches, and more! Kitana, Reptile, Jade, Scorpion, and Smoke are available in Ultimate MK3 that were not available in MK3. Good sequel/upgrade and both are worth playing. Just don't forget to block!
