Mortal Kombat: Deception came out back in 2004 for the PS2, PSP, XBOX, and GameCube. It is the sixth chronological instalment in the Mortal Kombat franchise, and it introduced some new aspects and fixed some things that Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance got wrong. Each character now had two unique fatalities as well as a harakiri. Death traps were also implemented to make up for lack of stage fatalities.

It also added three new modes of gameplay: Chess Kombat, which is essentially just chess but with a Mortal Kombat twist; Puzzle Kombat, which is a spin on Tetris; and Konquest, which was a massive improvement and vastly different from the Konquest mode in Deadly Alliance. This was also the first Mortal Kombat game to feature online play as well.
