This video is a compilation of 4 Shang Tsung TAS in the four Mortal Kombat games released on the Super NES: Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II, Mortal Kombat 3 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.
Shang Tsung is one of the few characters who were present in the first four games. He first started as the final boss of Mortal Kombat 1 and appeared as an older sorcerer. Then, after being granted youth by Shao Khan, he becomes a young man in his 20 in Mortal Kombat II and is also the first game where he is playable. In Mortal Kombat 3 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, he now seems to be around his 30 and now has face painting. In all game, he is able to morph into the playable cast. In MK1 only, Shang could also morph into Goro as well as being able to morph to another character at anytime. In every other games, the player stays as the morphed character for 15 seconds before morphing back into Shang Tsung.
In all Super NES game, his projectile is either one fire ball (MK1 SNES) or one to a volley of three fireballs depending on the input in the three other games. In MK3 and UMK3, he is also able to perform a volley of ground fireball that throws his opponent in the air for combo possibilities.
Note that in every port of the original Mortal Kombat, including the SNES port, Shang Tsung is unplayable. However, it is possible to play as him using a glitch that cause the game to skip the player selection for Player 2 and use the character that Player 1 was reaching in the battle plan. On player control, he is glitched, prone to crash and unable to morph.
In order to produce a TAS video of him in MK1 SNES, a patch named Mortal Kombat Champion Edition (made in 2019) was used to alter the game and allow Shang Tsung, as well as Goro and Reptile to be playable with their entire move set, including morph for Shang. In this patch, he is also able to perform every fatality in the game as long as he is morphed into a playable character.
