Most players miss this detail about the coin toss (Final Fantasy VI, SNES Classic)
During my Final Fantasy VI live stream, I explained how Edgar - the King of Figaro - rigged a coin toss to ensure that his brother would have freedom.
During an event early on, there's a flashback when Edgar and Sabin first return to Figaro castle. Sabin hasn't been home in about ten years. the two brothers recall the time their father passed away, and they tossed a coin to determine the fate of the kingdom.
Edgar specified the conditions of the coin toss, saying that if it landed on "heads" Sabin was free to choose his own path in life, and Edgar would stay behind to be king.
It's not until later that you find out that Edgar's coin had heads on both sides. And IF Sabin AND Edgar are in your party during the event where Celes and Setzer flip a coin for the use of his airship, you will see that Sabin never realized the coin Edgar uses has heads on both sides.
So essentially, Edgar gives Sabin his freedom by rigging the coin toss in his brother's favor. Sabin never realizes until that moment that the coin toss wasn't exactly fair, and his brother gave him a gift ten years ago.
