I actually quite enjoy this fight... if you have PSI Shield Omega, which Lucas learns at level 45. Thankfully, this place is also perfect for grinding, as on the main path to Mixolydia's house, Monkalruses have a 3% chance of dropping Kumatora's Mystical Gloves. And you bet I'll do that on Hard Mode.
You start with a free turn to do whatever you please. No need to Offense Down or Defense Up, since the Trio never attacks physically, so just start with PSI Shield and Defense Down. A fun little trick that also makes this boss easier is to keep lowering their defense if it's at the default state, since a lot of the time, that will bait them into using Defense Up (for some reason the Omega version, even though they're just one target). Everything said, PSI Shield is definitely important, as they carry the Beta and Gamma versions of Fire and Freeze, which are very highly damaging without a PSI Shield.
Pay attention to whoever calls out when they strike a Barrier Pose. Whoever does it will determine what weakness they will have during the pose. Barrier Man will set a Fire weakness, Barrier Gal will set a Freeze weakness, and Barrier Dude will set a Thunder weakness. The other two they don't become weak to will be nullified during the pose. You can always sniff out the weakness with Boney if you don't remember.
Lastly, whenever the Trio concentrates, make sure you have a PSI Shield ready, as next turn is the first instance of the extremely high damaging PK Starstorm in this whole game. After the fact, if your HP is good enough that no one will die, you can start goofing off. You've already won by then. Otherwise, guarding heavily slows down the HP scrolling.
By the way, this is the first instance of the theme "Strong One", with its wacky 15/8 time signature. Comboing to it is hard at first, but the beat is consistent and not hard to get used to.
