MSI Modern 14 B4MW-025MY (ft. Dell Inspiron 14 5405-2582SG) Ryzen 5 4500U
39I lost my laptop (Asus K501Lx) and looking for a replacement. I am looking at Acer Swift 3, Asus S14, MSI Modern 14, and also Dell 5405 which are using the Ryzen 5 4500U. I had to remove Acer Swift 3 and Asus S14 because they have no extra slots for RAM.
Here in Malaysia the Modern 14 B4MW-025MY and Inspiron 5404 have almost identical specs. Both support dual DIMM (2 ram slots) but Inspiron said to be having two M.2 slots. The price for MSI Modern 14 B4MW-025MY is about RM 2890-ish (700 USD) while Dell Inspiron 5405-2582SG is about RM 2780-ish (653 USD). Dell is way cheaper and has the extra PCI-E M.2 Slots and also have the MS Office for the student.
I choose MSI Modern 14 B4MW because of the design and color. The dark color makes the small dents (if I drop or hit it) are not visible or can be neglect. But the gray-like of Dell is something noticeable just like those at iPhone and Macbook's edge when got some dents. (Experience from having the Asus K501Lx).
Dell is said to be capped at 32GB of rams while MSI is 64GB. I am not sure I will be maxed the RAM size on a laptop which does not have a good GPU. Maybe I will try it if I need more tabs for my browser or editing photoshop.
Finally, yes I know I can get a more decent laptop if I add like RM 600-ish (140 USD). Like the Lenovo Legion 5 (Ryzen 5 4600H, GTX1650), Asus A15 (Ryzen 5 4600H, GTX1650), Illegear Onyx V Ryzen (Ryzen 5 4800H, GTX1650), and many more. I just want a 14" laptop and small one to put into my camera bag along with the iPad Mini 5. The reason, I just need a portable window if I need to edit the video while I am on going/travel.
