MTG: Duels of Planeswalkers Overview + Final thoughts in description
This game is fairly hard when starting it due to the starter decks you get. Even worse, the win/loss ratio for packs with these decks will be highly detrimental to your will to keep playing because you will find yourself losing, a lot. However, that situation isn't all that bad because it instills a sort of glorious accomplishment when you actually do win and get that booster pack.
It also gives you the alternative to mend your rage with the option of buying booster packs with money. Which is fine, but it's not good when you have no other way to get packs between winning and paying money. It causes this game to adopt a fine Pay to Win model for a game that doesn't even have ranked play.
Hearthstone's model for gaining cards is a lot better than DotP and there is also ranked play. Also DotP's current Multiplayer mode set is limited as in they left behind a lot of modes that many players wanted to play. Dropping Planechase, and double-headed giant. But the one white knight (see what I did there) in all of this, is the fact you're able to finally create your own deck. You're able to pick and choose any cards you want from a pool of 900 from 5 different blocks.
...but you have to buy the collection which unlocks the ABILITY to get packs from them. They don't simply give it to you, you have to pay into it.
So underline, the game is fun, but there's an underlying tone that this game was maybe not geared toward players. There's a small feeling that the designers thought they could break into the trend that Hearthstone has created with microtransactions, but they really botched it.
Fun game. Unfair and full of microtransactions. Pay to Win.
