Many Magic The Gathering players ask the question: Is it worth it to buy a Kaladesh Bundle?

Formerly known as fat packs, this product has been redesigned and rebranded. But is this new iteration a marked improvement over fat packs, or a bundle of blandness not to be bought? Let’s take a look!

A Kaladesh bundle contains the following: A card storage box, a 70 card land pack, 2 spindown die, 10 booster packs, a card guide and set poster.

Compared to a fat pack, the difference at first appear minimal: 1 additional booster pack and 1 additional spindown. And of course the additional 3 dollars added to the msrp.

But there’s more than meets the superficial eye when we closely examine...the storage box itself.

The majority of players really liked fat pack boxes for storage, however many problems existed with the boxes. The first and foremost was that a tightly packed fat pack box had the potential to actually damage the cards stored in it. In addition to this, heavy use could cause the boxes to become worn and torn.

But the highly education cardboard scientists at wizards of the coast have made great strides in cardboard science and technology, and thus bundle boxes have been constructed in such a way that the top insert does not extend to the end of the box, and thus does not have the potential of damaging your cards.

Also, the base and top is using a sturdier board stock akin to the newly redesigned giftboxes. Which this is a brand new method and thus i cannot speak to its endurance over years as it has only existed for days, it does appear to be noticeably stronger and sturdier than the previous board.

The bundle now come with a small removable and adjustable compartment box. It’s...neat. This can be used however you like, for dice or your deck or lands or whatever you individual needs are. Don’t like it? Don’t use it!

A few very odd additions and inclusions as well, the boxes are now cut with a slant top aide in opening, something that was not really a problem with fat pack boxes because when cards are contained within, the two parts always easily came apart.

The biggest advantage to bundles over fat packs is the improved upon storage box. The additional booster pack and higher quality box help make this product worth it, however the players that it is worth it to are overwhelmingly new and returning ones.

Even then, if your goals as player are to build a deck for Friday Night Magic, a bundle is not worth your cash. Likewise, established players or those who can afford to purchase a booster box will find little worth in the bundles.
