The MX Linux development team has announced the release of MX Linux 21 KDE beta 1. Check out the news and find out where to download the distro.
MX Linux, a desktop-oriented Linux distribution based on the “stable” branch of Debian, is a cooperative venture between the antiX and ex-MEPIS Linux communities.
Using Xfce as the default desktop, it's a medium-weight operating system designed to combine an elegant and efficient desktop with simple setup, high stability, solid performance and medium size.
Now, the MX Linux developers have announced the general availability of the MX Linux 21 KDE edition for public beta testing as the next MX Linux 21 KDE Plasma edition distribution.
What's New in MX Linux 21 KDE beta 1
I recently talked about the Xfce and Fluxbox beta versions of the upcoming MX Linux 21 “Wildflower” distribution, which will be based on the recently released Debian 11 Bullseye operating system series and long-term support Linux 5.10 LTS kernel series.
And now, the KDE Plasma edition is also ready for testing, based on the MX Linux 21 KDE AHS (Advanced Hardware Support) images and only available for 64-bit computers.
The KDE Plasma edition comes with the Plasma 5.20 series of desktop environments, more precisely the 5.20.5 point release.
Unfortunately, this is the Plasma version available in the Debian 11 Bullseye repositories, so there's no telling if it will be updated to a newer version until the final release of MX Linux 21 hits the streets.
However, there are some improvements compared to last year's release of the MX Linux KDE Plasma edition, such as adding dock icon entries to the Plasma panel, Plasma Discover in place of Muon as the default package manager and system management system. update and Ksnip as default tool for screenshots instead of Spectacle.
Finally, there are also general performance improvements, especially on live media, and all the benefits that the MX Linux 21 release promises, including new live UEFI system boot menus, a new installer partition selection area with some LVM support and enabling user password (sudo) for administrative tasks by default.
Download and try MX Linux 21 KDE beta 1
The MX Linux 21 KDE beta 1 ISO image can now be downloaded by accessing the distribution's official download page .
That said, those of you who wish to help with testing can download the beta edition of MX Linux 21 KDE Plasma right now. But remember NOT to install it on a production machine.
