MX LINUX 21 (“WILDFLOWER”) RC1 – RELEASE NOTES
Working with Xfce, Plasma and Fluxbox
In addition to the comparatively resource-saving standard desktop Xfce 4.16 , as in Debian 11 (“Bullseye”), also KDE Plasma 5.20.5 ready. As an alternative, the developers offer the very lightweight window manager Fluxbox with its own theme and adapted configuration for the X Window System.
Support until the end of 2026 thanks to the LTS kernel
Based on the latest LTS system kernel Linux 5.10, the operating system will receive support until December 2026 after the release. Both the Debian 11 repositories (“Bullseye”) and the MX repositories serve as package sources for new software.
Debian derivative with its own applications
In addition to well-known applications, such as the free Microsoft Office compatible one Office suite LibreOffice, the two graphics and drawing programs GIMP and Inkscape as well as the free browser Firefox and the e-mail client Thunderbird, the distribution brings its very own applications.
The so-called “MX Apps”, which range from small tools and helpers specially adapted to the Linux distribution, to full-blown applications, are intended to make MX Linux more adaptable and easier to configure. There are more than 40 MX apps to choose from.
