And the Thunderbird 91.2 email client was released with support for OTA updates, and more. Check out the news and see how to install on Linux.
Thunderbird is a free email client from the Mozilla Foundation that is easy to set up and customizable, and has many features.
Mozilla Thunderbird is one of the best email applications today and considered by some to be one of the best alternatives to Microsoft Outlook at the moment.
This client also accesses XML files, Feeds (Atom and RSS), blocks images, has built-in anti-spam filter and a mechanism that prevents scams through messages.
Best of all, with themes, you can modify the appearance of Thunderbird's interface. Themes can either change the toolbar icons or modify all the program's interface elements.
Now, Thunderbird 91.2 was released early last week as the second major release in the Thunderbird 91 series.
What's New in Thunderbird 91.2
Thunderbird 91 was released two months ago, but was not offered as an OTA (Over-the-Air) update of Thunderbird 78 and earlier versions.
After three punctual minor releases, Thunderbird 91.2 is here and allows support for OTA updates from previous versions of Thunderbird.
Thunderbird 91.2 is also a minor update, bringing only the ability to use a unique filename when saving a single message in .eml file format, as well as several bug fixes.
But the main change in this release is the ability to upgrade from Thunderbird 78 and earlier versions without leaving the app.
So, if you are running Thunderbird 78.14, all you need to do to upgrade to Thunderbird 91.2 is click on the burger menu next to the search field in the toolbar and access the Sobre o Thunderbirdmenu dialog Ajuda. You will now see the option to upgrade to Thunderbird 91.2.0.
Of course, this will not work if you have Thunderbird installed from your Linux distribution's software repositories, but only if you are using Mozilla Thunderbird via the binary file downloaded from the official website.
If you're thinking “should I upgrade to Thunderbird 91 or not”, you should know that this major update brings initial support for Matrix servers and uses Libera Chat for new chat accounts by default in Chat component, an improved dark theme, a integrated PDF viewer and improved support for CardDAV.
Thunderbird 91 also features a new account setup wizard that opens in a tab instead of a new window, three new UI density controls, improved support for Gmail accounts, support for accessing Outlook contacts, a user interface Enhanced print user and the ability to encrypt your emails to BCC recipients as well.
