My PS2 SCPH-30001R which I purchased new in Jan 2002 recently stopped loading Half-Life so time to open it up and do a bit of work. The noises when I showed it after the repair seemed to go away shortly after so I'm assuming the grease had to work it's way into spots on the laser guide holes while it was loading during the start. Only part I've replaced on this console is the little white plastic piece that attaches to the laser with 2 teeth that ride in the worm gear. The original one I replaced in 2007 with another used one which has held up fine. I'm going to keep this system going as long as possible because so many fond memories of playing all the GTA's, Ratchet and Clanks, Jak and Daxters, Metal Gears, Etc............on this system which I bought at wal-mart in Jan 2002 for $299.99 & definitely the best money I've ever spent on a device. Gotta love the PS2 if you love games because the library is unsurpassed.
