My Elementary OS 5 Juno Post Install
I was donated a 23” Dell Optiplex 9010 AIO computer. The first thing I did was to see if it powered on, and yes it worked. The next thing I did was to research it specifications:
Quad-Core Intel i7-3770S @ 3.10GHz
Intergrated Intel HD Graphics 4000
4GB 1600MHz DDR3
some 3.5” HDD
no touch, WIFI or bluetooth :-(
After my researching the hardware specification I did the following upgrades:
512GB SSD
16GB 1600MHz DDR3
2nd Dell 23” LED monitor through HDMI since both screens are 1920X1080
The rest of the system I choose to leave alone. The touch screen upgrade would not have been cost effective and the process is way too much work. The CPU with the integrated graphics was already at it top limits for this system so there was nothing to do. Since I was using the Ethernet port no need for WIFI and no need for the Bluetooth upgrades, but it does use a half height WLAN Bluetooth card for laptops if one does choose to upgrade.
After the hardware upgrades I installed Elementary OS 5 Juno on my 23” Dell Optiplex 9010 AIO. After installing the Elementary OS I did a few changes and tweaks.
Turn on the firewall & and run the updates
enabled PPA package installs
sudo apt install software-properties-common
Installed elementary tweaks:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:philip.scott/elementary-tweaks
sudo apt update
sudo apt install elementary-tweaks
Disable single-click with elementary tweaks (Go to Settings → Tweaks → Files, and disable single-click)
Installed Eddy for GUI .deb package installs like
Installed Google Chrome deb from site, my favorite
Installed Skype deb from site
Activate Night Light, better for the eyes
Installed Synaptic for a lot of my favorite applications like LibreOffice, Audacious, Gimp and many more . . . (sudo apt install synaptic)
Themed my Elementary OS to look elegant and beautiful with some themes and icons downloaded.
